Greenbank Church of Christ Food Pantry
A young couple had a dream ― a dream of feeding hungry people. Our member-stocked food closet to serve passersby was great, but for this young couple, it wasn’t enough. They wanted to do more.
So they did.
After painstaking research, hearty leadership approval, spirited volunteer recruiting, Delaware Food Bank training, and demanding set-up and bulk food purchasing, the Cedars Food Pantry ― so very recently just a dream ― became reality in November of 2012 when our Thursday night pantry opened.
That first night, four people came to us for food. Four. Within just a few weeks, word spread. Members and clients handed out cards with our pantry hours and location. People told each other in apartment complexes, on the street, everywhere. Soon, the line began to form long before the pantry would open, and it wrapped around the building.
Most weeks, 90-130+ households come to us, representing 250-300 or more individuals who receive enough food to feed their household three meals a day for three days. Some nights, we’ve given enough food for more than 3,000 meals!

The Greenbank Church of Christ Food Pantry operates each Thursday, from 6:00 to 7:00 PM
With proper identification, we provide three days worth of food (3 meals per day), for no charge. This is meant as a temporary help, for those in need.
Since our November 2012 inception, God has graciously enabled us with the means to provide food for tens of thousands of meals to our neighbors in need.
We appreciate our volunteers, both from within and outside our church, as well as the various businesses and contributors that partner with us in this wonderful ministry.
